France bans 5 million Muslims from wearing the burka with 246-1 vote

"France banned 5 million Muslims from wearing the burka last night in a final, decisive vote by the parliament.

Protest: Members of the French association 'Ni Putes, Ni soumises' walk toward the right political party UMP headquarters dressed with burka

Women who repeatedly offend will be sent to prison after lawmakers in the senate rubber-stamped an earlier vote by MPs.

In a nation of 5million Muslims, the full Islamic face veil is now officially ‘an insult to the country’s values’.

The 246-1 vote result means the controversial law is now in force, despite threats from al-Qaeda leaders to seek ‘dreadful revenge’ if it is ever enforced.

Following the vote, Muslim women now have a six months ‘grace period’ to adapt to the new rules without facing prosecution.

If they persist in wearing it after that time they will be fined £125 or ordered to attend citizenship classes. But some warned they will refuse to obey any law telling them how to dress, whatever the consequences.
Men who force their wives to wear the garb, viewed by some as a sign of fundamentalism, face a year in jail and a fine of up to £25,000.

France is now the second country in Europe after Belgium to outlaw Muslim head wear that hides the face.

The law will also apply to Muslim tourists – including the thousands of Middle Eastern visitors to the French capital every year.

French Muslim property tycoon Rachid Nekkaz has said he will set up a fund to help Muslim women pay ‘burka fines’."

I think this is awesome progress, what do you all think?

  1. They're in France. They should respect the French customs and culture. Only headgear Frenchwomen should wear is chainmail like Joan of Arc to kick some ass and not be like modern France and suck. And al Queda threatening violence only goes to show how peaceful Islam is.

  19. Muslims have been doing alot of crazy stuff lately, in a neighborhood in Paris they pray weekly in the street, it looks like serious cult crap, totally illegal and totally imposing on my liberty (if the streets are closed and all shops and buildings in the area when this happens).

    I support this 100%!

  22. What the fuck? How is this a movement in the right direction? People should be allowed to express themselves no matter what, freedom of speech n all that. Seriously, you cannot tar all muslims with the same brush mate, a few attention grabbing radical extremists does not mean all of them are like that.

    http://www.loonwatch.com/2010/01/terrorism-in-europe/

"The results are stark, and prove decisively that not all terrorists are Muslims. In fact, a whopping 99.6% of terrorist attacks in Europe were by non-Muslim groups; a good 84.8% of attacks were from separatist groups completely unrelated to Islam. Leftist groups accounted for over sixteen times as much terrorism as radical Islamic groups. Only a measly 0.4% of terrorist attacks from 2007 to 2009 could be attributed to extremist Muslims."

  23. I wouldn't ban these; they would only cause conflict amongst others... It's almost as bad as burning korans/qurans on 9/11... You're only going to upset tons of people in S.W. Asia and Africa.

    *sigh*

  24. if i was a muslim woman i wouldnt want to wear that crap either seriously, its so degrading and sexist, at least now they wont get killed in france for not wearing one, im all for people having their own beliefs but what kind of belief is, if you dont cover your face you die...im glad someone is putting a stop to it, fucking muslim men and their bullshit about women being whores when they go out and screw who they want, its hypocrytical and if men had to wear them we would be seeing alot more against it but since women are pushovers they allow it, this stuff makes me rage

  25. Yeah I dunno. It's a pretty controversial movement given that there's plenty of Muslim women that wear the burka willingly. This is only going to cause some trouble I think.
